3 week old refurbished (by factory) Compaq SR1820NX with amd 3200 64XP cpu and WinXP home. Suddenly won't boot properly, but when it does, it runs fine. Reinstalled (full format), changed cmos battery on advice of Compaq support, still messing up. Ran PC Doctor diagnostic, cpu fails fpu and mmx test. Do I have a bad cpu, or is the problem with some setting in XP? Thanks for all help, it's under warranty, but if I can avoid sending it back....feel free to mail me at my personal addy.

Hi
Could be a driver conflict, you can check event viewer see if there are any errors, device manager to see if there are any question marks. Not sure what you mean by not booting properly ,no power, posts and then freezes, could be many things, could run memtest for the memory ,could run Everest home edition to check if psu is running correct voltage

We need more info, I would hazard a guess though that the cpu has been overclocked and burnt out.Send it back to compaq and ask them for a replacement.

The war is far from over, Intel may be winning this battle, but Amd will win this war.
